The
National flight from La Souterraine Youngsters:
VAN HOVE - UYTTERHOEVEN, Putte
Marvelous winners

The last but
one flight when we're talking about the National
Championship Youngsters. This flight, organized
by the Belgian federation (KBDB), had about 14.021
youngsters and 3.234 old birds at the start at
the 23rd August 2003. The pigeons were released
at 8.05 in the morning with more than 560 km ahead
of them. At first it didn't seem to be an easy
job to do, looking back at the other national
flights with hot weather and wind ahead at a speed
of 1100 or 1200 m/m. Luckily this flight from
La Soutteraine wasn't like the previous year 2002,
when the animals had to stay for 6 days in the
basket.
Nevertheless it was party-time in Putte with Van
Hove-Uytterhoeven, when their first pigeon arrived
and was clocked at 16.03 at a speed of 1222,39
m/m and scored with a 1st National prize. This
winner also seemed to be the fastest bird of all
La Souterraine racers.
Miet, our host and the one responsible for the
care of this young generation and it seemed that
she did a very good job. These same pigeons didn't
have to fly the previous national flight from
Argenton because of the heat. May be this is her
reward for not letting her "babies"
fly in the hot temperatures before. But who will
tell? Nevertheless it was amazing how the young
birds arrived there in Putte on that afternoon
in a very short period they succeeded to clock
27 birds of their 39.
The winner was a bleu checquered hen, 6042101/03,
now baptized "Queen Souterraine", with
clear brown-yellow eyes and soft feathers. Before
she already had to fly Noyon, Sens, Pithiviers,
Orléans, Sens and Bourges and then last
but not least the victory from La Souterraine.

In her pedigree
we find the string of the "Late Flippe"
and the one of the "Jonge Bange 1-2-3-4-5",
so talking about a strong family! And you know
what they always say: "The good ones come
out of the good ones." And this most certainly
is proved her in Putte. The father of "Queen
Souterraine" is the 6098001/00 or the "Copacabana"

As you can
see for yourself now, this "Queen Souterraine"
is a descent of a fabulous family. Also her own
nest brother, the 6042100/03, didn't miss once
and he always was to be found at the top. But
because the cocks get some credit in Putte, also
this 100/03 is left for the future.
Next to the results above we can also mention
the 3 x 1st Provincial, once from Bourges with
the 6042086/03, next from Limoges Yearlings (first
in the Zone) and now this, as well 1st Prov. as
1st Nat. from La Souterraine.
Their secret? Many sections with only few pigeons.
Young hens played on widowhood and paired to old
cocks. Darkening till one week before the most
important middle distance flight (till about the
15th June every year again.)
The Old "Havenith" race in cross breed
with the Karel Schellens race is still in doing
it nowadays. In 1983 they bought about 10 pigeons
with Karel and one was left; "The Hofkens",
which seemed to be a super breeder.
Conclusion:
Van Hove-Uytterhoeven are real winners and they
do a lot to stay at this top too. Because of the
disease-problems at the beginning of the season,
they did very well with two 1st prizes from Bourges
Provincial, the 1st Zone from Limoges Yearlings
and now this super score from La Souterraine.
Of course they all are very content and hope to
go on like this for some years now!
