Wilfried Vanderheyden (Kortrijk Dutsel) wins
Beziers 2003 Old Pigeons.
 
  The national race of Beziers (before Narbonne) with in total 11.166 pigeons, where from 6.348 old and 4.818 yearling pigeons, knew a very difficult race. Liberated at 7h30 with a South East wind on 26 July 2003, nobody knew before that the 850 km to fly was very difficult. Thunders and low cloud were the kill-joy. The first pigeons get a normal speed (only 10 pigeons who fly more then 1200 meter/min) was it for the rest very difficult to get a speed higher then 1000 meter/min.
It is Wilfried Vanderheyden (Kortrijk Dutsel) a part of the village Holsbeek who get the chance to clock his pigeon at 18h37, good for the national honour.
  It is the "De Kleine Geschelpte", the B 00/2191343, chequered white eye. The parents are both from 1997 and come both from the loft of Paul Liekens. The father 97/2448429 come out of the line "De Oude Ameye", through Louis Van der Wielen and has also the blood of Van Hee (Wervik) 'Motta'
The mother, the 2448427/97 is also from the 'Motta' strain of Van Hee.
'De Kleine Geschelpte' is born in March 2000 and good trained, won a 22 prize on Nanteuil. In 2001 won he on 9 June Pittiviers 38th of 302 pigeons. He flew on 4 August Perpignan and get 9th from 85 pigeons in Demer and Dijle. 80 Prov. against 560 pigeons and 588 National from 3.946 pigeons.

  In 2003 he flew Chateauroux and Argenton, with a normal result. After he stay at home through the bad condition, was to light for the hard work. Till the boss Wilfried, saw on the second day of their holiday that's something was wrong on his loft. He lies low and listened what was happened on the loft when he was not there. There was a firebrand on the loft, who not let eat and drink the other pigeons on the loft. To change the system and separate feeding system get the 'De Kleine Geschelpte' back on their condition. For punishment he must go to Marseille and all the other loft mates were satisfy that he was out for some days. And the result was successful. Beziers was the first long distance race of "De Kleine Geschelpte' and immediate the good luck.
You see how to change some small things can be the cause that the pigeons fly and race less well. The secret is not every time in to give some powders and pills.
As well Wilfried Vanderheyden as the wife goes out for work during the day. There was not so many time to take care of the pigeons in good condition. That's why they choose for the dry-dung method. Every day quickly to give some food and drink and they were out again. You see it with long distance pigeons this is possible … in fact it are the pigeons themselves, who have to fly a big number of kilometre, in time, and as quick as possible. And this is a case of you can it or not. Of course the condition an important … but if you read the article good, you can make the conclusion that the success is sometime dependant of small things.
The ear and the eye of the fancier, who have a lot of patience see, listen what is happening on the loft and out the loft.
Wilfried Vanderheyde, gardener is the profession. In the free time which is left also trainer of the ladies football equipment 'Ladies Aarschot' … It is clear that in the Lindestraat 4, in Holsbeek, not left so many times.
But the family Vanderheyden knew a very good season in 2002 with 1/6 of Brives, 2/4 from Cahors, 2/3 of Castres, 2/3 Montauban, ½ Limoges,3/5 Barcelona, 3/5 Jarnac, ½ Dax, 2/2 Souuillac, 2/2 Beziers, ¾ Bourges, ½ Perpignan and ½ on St Vincent.
In 2003 : Cahors ½, Castres ½, Angouleme 1/3, Limoges ½, Jarnac yearling 2/6, Barcelona 2/5, Dax 2/2, Souillac 2/3, Marseille 2/2, Beziers ½.
In total he has 28 widowhoods. 8 from them are for the < ½ Fond in the Brabantse Unie, the 20 others, within 8 yearlings has to race the long distance program and some overnight races.
12 pairs of breeders, wherefrom every year 80 youngsters are ringed. This colony is based on 80 % Paul Liekens pigeons and 20 % pigeons from Van Laer Van Dingene of Geetbets who kept the Verbruggen and the Venus strain.
Wilfried Vanderheyden is very proud that he can say that he thanks everything through the Paul Liekens pigeons. Also some pigeons from Jean Gochet (Verbruggen x Deno strain) is successful for Wilfried. He will say thank you through this way to all these fanciers for the support of the good pigeons. You get good pigeons … you can not buy them easily, add Mr. Wilfried.
